Mandatory nutrition labeling under the Food Labeling Act

On April 1, 2015, a new law, the Food Labeling Law, was enacted that stipulates food labeling. As a general rule, this law requires that all general-use processed foods and general-use additives (excluding processed foods for business use) pre-packaged for consumers to be labeled with nutritional information (calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, salt equivalents). was made obligatory.

[Nutrition ingredient display per 100g]

Calories ○○○kcal

Protein ○○g

Lipid ○g

Carbohydrate   ○○g

Salt equivalent   ○.○g

*The amount of sodium is displayed in terms of salt equivalent.

[Display conditions]

①The unit is 100g, 100ml, 1 serving, 1 package, or 1 other unit.

*When displaying 1 serving, it is necessary to indicate the amount of 1 serving as well.

②The order of nutritional ingredients and calories cannot be changed.

③Nutritional components and calorie values of 0 can be displayed collectively with characters.

Example) "Protein, fat 0g"

【Reference information】

According to the Food Labeling Law, the only ``physical and chemical analysis'' is the only ``official method'' for analysis of food nutritional components, but the law only ``states values obtained by rational estimation'', and other measurement methods and `` It is also possible to display numerical values published based on the 7th Revised Food Composition Tables. (However, it is necessary to put "estimated value" or "this display is a guideline" near the displayed value.) It is the published value or the value obtained by sample product analysis.

[How to set display values]

Analysis value: Value analyzed by the analysis method specified by the Consumer Affairs Agency

· Calculated value: A value obtained by obtaining nutritional component values of raw materials from public databases such as the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan and calculating the nutritional components.

Reference value: A value obtained by analogizing nutritional component values from similar foods based on public databases, etc.

· Combined value: A value that combines analysis value, calculated value, and reference value

*The display of the content does not necessarily require analysis, and if the content displayed as a result is within the allowable range, it does not violate food labeling standards. In addition, the tolerance range for calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and sodium is up to ±20%.

Measurement service by "near-infrared spectroscopy"

What is near-infrared spectroscopy?

It has been used for food analysis for a long time, and in recent years, the scope of its use has expanded to the medical field. In research and experiments so far, it has been confirmed that the correlation between near-infrared spectroscopy and physical and chemical analysis is within ±20% error.

Measurement device "Calorie Answer"

A measurement device using near-infrared spectroscopy. Operation and measurement are easy, and the required time is about 3 to 5 minutes. Repeated measurements are possible without being affected by calorie fluctuation factors such as the cooking method and production area of the sample to be measured, and measurement of food residue is also possible. Some foods cannot be measured.

Measurement fee by calorie answer

Precautions when requesting food nutritional composition and calorie measurement service

1. Precautions for measurement with calorie answer

(1) Our food nutritional composition and calorie measurement service uses Calorie Answer manufactured by Joy World Pacific Co., Ltd. to measure calories and others (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates as reference values) by near-infrared spectroscopy. .

(2) Measurement of the amount equivalent to salt is performed by the ion method. However, the ion method may measure components other than sodium as sodium.

(3) By letting us know the main ingredients of the food, we will be able to measure it more accurately.

(4) Foods that are difficult to measure include non-permeable liquids (squid ink, etc.), concentrated liquids, and foods containing a large amount of indigestible carbohydrates (agar, sucralose, xylitol, etc.).

(5) In addition, due to the characteristics of the near-infrared spectroscopic analysis method, there are foods that cannot be inspected depending on the type and condition, and foods that cannot be measured, so please check when applying.

(6) Foods that produce juice, such as frozen foods and canned foods, will be measured without drip unless otherwise specified.

(7) When the error is expected to exceed ±20% as a result of the measurement due to factors such as the characteristics of the measuring instrument or the uniformity of the sample, or when the results are clearly abnormal compared to the literature values. is not measurable.

(8) If the measurement becomes impossible, we will not charge the measurement fee, but please bear the shipping fee when sending the sample.

(9) Regarding the labeling of nutritional ingredients on products, etc. based on the measurement, please make a decision based on the client's judgment.

2. Specimens

(1) Samples sent to us will be discarded after measurement is completed. However, in the event that we cannot dispose of hazardous materials or extremely large quantities, etc., we may ask the client to collect the items.

3. Posting and use of measurement results reports, etc.

(1) Measurement reports and measurement data belong to the client. However, please contact us in advance if you wish to include our company name on product packages, catalogs, websites, etc.

In addition, we do not take any responsibility for any disputes or economic burdens caused by the publications created by the client.

4. Disclaimer of financial burden related to measurement results

(1) Our company shall be exempted from any and all problems such as disputes or financial burdens arising from measurement results and measurement result reports.

5.Others

(1) If you have any other questions, please contact us.
